Climate change as a communication challenge

Awareness and knowledge to face the climate crisis

By Santi Serrat

Published in We Are Water

The denial of climate change or its anthropogenic causes is a position that, although defended by a minority, has powerful political and economic allies that amplify and encourage it. The distortion of information and demagogy are favored by the inhibition caused by an excess of superficial and purely alarming information. Communicating by raising awareness while educating is the best antidote to denial and the way to solutions.

Beyond natural disasters

The current climate and environmental crisis requires an effort in communication to ensure that public awareness leads to real actions for change. Information does not become knowledge by itself, especially if it is provided in excess. A paradigm shift in communication is required that should not only raise awareness but also provide access to scientific knowledge.
